Non-Breaking News
In every airport I’m in there are CNN screens scrolling trivialities like they are urgent matters. And then they repeat them again and again, like national obsessive compulsive disorder.
Some days there just isn’t any news that’s worth reporting. They could fill up the newspaper with comics and we could all sigh with relief that at least the world was good for a day. But they don’t.
So I’m never surprised when I hear that the public’s attention to news is on the decline. Our news media simply aren’t doing what they should be paid to do — an editor’s entire job is to select what’s important. When the boy cries wolf, well, eventually you start to not believe him, and later, not even care.
Someone should start a newspaper that actually only tells you what you need to know.
